Rob Dickson, AKA Etchasketch - Machine led music maker + community builder

Under the name of Etchasketch, Colwyn Bay local Rob Dickson makes music in collaboration with machines. Using his own mesh of modular synthesizers, he produces music is experimental, ambitious, and ever-unfolding.

Not content to produce his art in a bubble; Rob founded ‘Modulate’ - an experimental music night that continued and evolved despite Covid. Now with participants from across the world - this thriving scene had it’s beginnings in Colwyn Bay.

“ Modulate came about through finding those like-minded people who needed that sense of community and eventually we got about 20-30 people who regularly would engage on those Wednesday nights. Through lockdown I think my sense of community has only grown stronger and you kind of realize what's important.

Finding ways to build community especially involving our young people, to give them some hope and something they can get involved in… at that age you never know what's going to flick that light switch for you”
