FAQs

I’d like to join a community group. How do I find out what’s available locally?

We’ve put together a list of community groups, clubs and societies in the Colwyn Bay area on this site.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for you can use the ‘Together for Colwyn Bay Forum’ on Facebook to ask other residents if they can direct you to a group that suits you.

If you still can’t find a group that interests you… why not set one up? Get in touch with us to suggest your idea.

Where is the glyn ward?

The Glyn ward covers the heart of Colwyn Bay Town Centre and also the seafront and promenade from the pier to Porth Eirias. It includes Eirias Park, the Fron and Glyn estates and Pwyllcrochan woods.

The T4CB programme is designed to promote community engagement and activity to benefit those who live and work in the Glyn. Sometimes we’ll support initiatives that stretch a little beyond the strict boundary, where there’s a benefit to people within the ward.

Why isn’t the website in welsh?

You can switch to Welsh on the bar at the top of the page.

I’d like to set up a group but I don’t know how to, Where can I get some help ?

You can use the ‘Together for Colwyn Bay Forum’ to identify other people who may share your passion or interest and set up a group together.

If you want to set up something more formal, with a committee, a bank account and a set of rules (so you can apply for funds) there is help from CVSC (Tel: 01492 534091) and from the T4CB Community Development Officers, Vin and Georgia.

Can you provide funding for small groups?

You can take a look on our Grant and Funding Sources page for information on organisations that offer community grants. Our Invest Local workers Huw and Georgia are more than happy to help anyone in the Colwyn Bay area with applications to other organisations, should you need it.

Applying to access funding through T4CB normally requires you to explain how you would spend the money and how it would benefit the community, and that you cant find funding for your project elsewhere. Once funding is approved by a steering group consisting of residents from the Glyn Wards of Colwyn Bay; with you in the drivers seat, we will collectively use our knowledge and connections drive the project forward.

You can take a look at our ‘Project Proposal’ pro forma here.

can I access training through Together For Colwyn Bay?

In short: yes.

If you need training, whether it be to set up a group or an event, or to improve your skills in developing an idea, or for practical necessities like safeguarding or first aid training (as examples) please contact us and we’ll look at ways that we can help you to access the training you need.

I’d like to volunteer in the community. How do I go about doing that?

There are lots of opportunities for volunteering in the Colwyn Bay area and great benefits to doing so. If you know the type of voluntary work you want to do you may be able contact the relevant organisation directly. Alternatively the Conwy Voluntary Services Council (CVSC) can help you to find what’s right for you.

How can i help people who are not online or on social media get involved in community activities?

Give us a call on 07702638676.

I’d like to do something to help my community but I don't live in Colwyn Bay, what can I do?

If you live outside Colwyn Bay then you should check what resources and organisations there are to support community development in your area. If you want to work in partnership with residents in the Glyn for an event or an initiative that is of mutual benefit then by all means get in touch.

I’m really struggling with my mental health, what can i do?

Mental health and wellbeing issues affect so many people in the community. You are not alone. Below is advice taken from www.mind.org.uk

“If you feel like you might attempt suicide, or may have seriously harmed yourself, you need urgent medical help. Please:

  • Call 999 for an ambulance

  • Go straight to A&E, if you can

  • Or call your local crisis team, if you have their number.

If you can't do this by yourself, ask someone to help you.

Mental health emergencies are serious. You're not wasting anyone's time.”

If you need someone to speak to, whatever the time, you can call Samaritans. To talk about anything that is upsetting you, you can contact Samaritans 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You can call 116 123 (free from any phone), email jo@samaritans.org or visit some branches in person. You can also call the Welsh Language Line on 0300 123 3011 (7pm–11pm every day).

MIND has a list of free phone lines you can access here: https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/guides-to-support-and-services/crisis-services/helplines-listening-services/

We have also put together a list of wellbeing resources that you can access in the local area. See Our Community > Community Groups > Wellbeing.
